Custom Bark Plant Triples Output for Bark Wholesalers
Sanland Equipment recently delivered a purpose-built bark processing plant to Bark Wholesalers Ltd in South Auckland, significantly increasing their throughput and improving material consistency. The new plant has tripled production output, delivering in a few hours what previously took a full day.
This turnkey solution was designed in-house by Sanland to handle the fibrous nature of bark, ensuring reliability, ease of maintenance, and long-term performance.
Engineered for Bark: Key System Components
Heavy-Duty Feed Hopper
A large-capacity hopper handles high-volume input with ease, feeding material steadily into the screening system and preventing blockages or surges.
Inclined Vibrating Screen
At the heart of the system is a custom-built inclined vibrating screen, electrically driven for reduced emissions and improved efficiency. This unit effectively separates bark into precise sizes, helping deliver a cleaner, more uniform product.
Picking Table
A dedicated manual picking station was incorporated into the design to allow for hand removal of contaminants, such as rocks, poor quality bark or oversized debris.
UK-Manufactured Bark Pulveriser
Positioned downstream, the pulveriser breaks down oversize bark material and ensures a well sized product . Built specifically for fibrous materials like mulch and bark, this machine reduces the need for manual rehandling and optimises downstream conveyor performance.
Chevron Discharge Conveyors
Multiple chevron belt conveyors transport material through the system and into final stockpiles. The angled tread ensures reliable movement of light, irregular bark material, even on steeper inclines.
Designed and Supported by Sanland
This project also involved collaboration with Turnco Engineering, who refurbished the site’s existing secondary trommel screen, while Sanland focused on the new primary processing system. After installation, our team provided full commissioning support, fine-tuning the system for optimal performance.
“Before we would work all day to produce what this one does in a few short hours now,” said John Van Houtte, Production Supervisor at Bark Wholesalers.
With this project, Sanland has once again demonstrated our capability to design and deliver fit-for-purpose processing solutions for the New Zealand and Pacific markets. From organic waste to aggregates and quarrying, our systems are backed by local support, genuine parts, and a commitment to long-term service.
